Asia̵= 7;s 1st ACM SIGGRAPH Traveling Art Show

June – July 2007 (Hong Kong)<= /span>

 

A.    Background

SIGG= RAPH Conference Art G= allery: Ever= y year, the SIGGRAPH Conference Art Gallery presents wo= rk in a wide variety of art forms. Artists throughout the world are working with computers to produce both objects and environments for us to experience. Th= e Art Gallery also features the new field of digital illustration and postal art from all over the world, mounted together in frames to show the range of images that= are now being created and passed through the mail.

SIGGRAPH 2005 = Art Gallery: Inte= rsect with art that explores new territories, crosses traditional boundaries, provokes thought, reveals ideas in innovative ways, and addresses contempor= ary issues. Intersections features 2D, 3D and 4D wall-hung works, sound art, installation art, art animations, and screen-based work from throughout the world. Intersections also include presentations of theoretical art papers, digital art panels, and Art Sketches.

The SIGGRAPH Traveling Art Show helps= to expose people around the world to the art collected at the SIGGRAPH Annual Conference's Art Shows. A subset of the SIGGRAPH Conference= Art = Gallery is selected to become the ACM SIGGRAPH Traveling Art Show (TAS). The TAS travels for two years after the completion of the conference, stopping at universities, festivals, and museums in States and other locations, such as East Tennessee, San Antonio, Orlando, Northeast Ohio, Sout= h Africa, Milano and Mississippi State etc.

ACM S= IGGRAPH Hong Kong Professional Chapter is delighted to host the 1st Asia SIGGRAPH Traveling Art Show in Hong Kong during June to July 2007.

B.    Target Groups

1)   &nbs= p; Shopping Mall, Cyberport: computer graphic practitioners= , general public who are interested in digital illustration and visual art.

2)   &nbs= p; Institutes: professionals and students who are interested in digital illustration and visual art.

3)   &nbs= p; Exhibition Con-current: computer graphic practitioners, general public who are interes= ted in digital illustration and visual art.

 

C.    Objectives

The Exhibition aims:

- to display the selected artworks from the SIGGRAPH Conference= Art = Gallery;

- to promote the development of digital illustration and= visual art in Hong Kong;

- to introduce the concept of multimedia design to the g= eneral public; and

- to encourage artistic creations of local multimedia de= signer/ computer graphic practitioners.

E.     Exhibits

A subset of the Siggraph Conference<= /st1:PlaceName> Art G= allery is selected and will be delivering from USA= to Hong Kong. The Traveling Art Show is considering the following types of work:-

Artworks that invo= lve electronically mediated spaces, kiosks where the environment is part of   

the art, and art that expands beyond the frame.

·   Fusion Works
 
Works that combine innovative technology and creative art expression.

·   On the monitor: CD/DVD-= ROM and web-based work
 
Screen-based work, database art, web art, interactive programs.

·   2D still images<= /b>
 
Digital painting, digital imaging, prints, and mixed-media works.

·   3D still images<= /b>=

Framed still-image artwork created using 3D software or algorithms.

·   4D wall-hung work
 
Works that reside = in a frame or on the wall but move. For instance, a plasma screen with a   

slowly evolving image, or a projection onto a fram= e on the wall. It typically requires electricity

and possibly special equipment.

·   Art Papers
  Theoretical papers= that deal with contemporary, historical, and conceptual issues in digital <= /o:p>

art.
